Spotting Melanomas with a Cellphone
April 20, 2010 | Terry Sharrer
Health Discovery Corporation (Savannah, GA) will soon release a cell-phone based application that forwards a picture of a mole to the company to see if it requires a dermatopathology examination. Once HDC receives the picture, a computer analyzes it for pattern recognition. A report then tells the sender whether the lesion is high grade or low and lists dermatologists who would take the referral. Patients pay for the screen; dermatologists pay for the referral listing.
