Myomo Inc. (Boston) takes its name from the Latin prefix, myo, meaning muscle. Rightly so, as Myomo is a neurorobotics company that manufacturers a physical rehabilitation device to aid stroke victims regain muscle movement. Their system includes an electromyography sensor on the skin that detects attempted movement from residual muscle function. The sensor’s signal goes to a microprocessor and software that then activates a wearable robotic assistor. Stroke patients, after a decade of disability, have regained movement.
