Glow Caps

Medication adherence is a significant issue, especially for elders living alone and showing forgetfulness.  Vitality, Inc. (Cambridge, MA) has a solution for this: it’s the $99 “Glow Cap” that affixes to a standard pill container.  Using wireless communications, the Glow Cap will flash a light reminder, which, if not turned off, is followed by a ring tone and then a call to the patient’s personal phone saying “It’s time to take your medicine.”  It can send a weekly email to a friend or family member, a monthly report on adherence to the patient’s doctor, and even orders refills.
