Biomarkers for Schizophrenia

Even the tag “behavioral disorders”-meaning psychiatric diseases-is vague. However, the search is now on to identify protein biomarkers in the blood that define schizophrenia by specific molecular profiles and thereby distinguish it from other illnesses that can present very similar behavioral symptoms. Roche (Basel, Switzerland) and Psynova Neurotech (Cambridge, UK) recently signed agreements to pursue both biomarker discovery and a companion diagnostic kit for schizophrenia. This is yet another example of drug companies becoming highly involved in what used to be a separate field, diagnostics. MORE
