Integrated Diagnostics, a Seattle molecular diagnostics company that has spun out of Leroy Hood‘s Institute for Systems Biology, is developing inexpensive microfluidic chips that array peptides to capture pathological proteins from a drop of blood in five to ten minutes. One version now being tested at UCLA, detects 35 blood markers for primary cancers and their metastases. The company is also planning chips for central nervous-system disorders. MORE
