Wireless Digital Plaster for Telemedicine

CareFusion (San Diego, CA), whose business motto is “measurable improvements in patient care,” has funded the clinical trial of a disposable patch for wireless, continuous monitoring of patients’ vital signs while they are at home. The device was developed at Imperial College London under Biomedical Engineering professor Chris Toumazou, and the trial is taking place at the NHS’s Imperial College hospital. The plaster (meaning sticky attachment) holds a low power sensor platform on a silicon chip; data is wirelessly downloadable via a cell phone to the patient’s EMR. MORE
