A Radioisotope Battery
November 17, 2009 | Terry Sharrer
Electrical and computer engineering professor, Jae Kwon, at the University of Missouri, has developed a radioisotope battery about the size of a penny. Besides the nuclear energy source, he employs a liquid semiconductor which is more resistant to radiation damage than solid semiconductors. Already, this could be used in various implantable medical devices, but Kwon supposes the size could be engineered down to the thickness of a human hair. MORE
