A few of the 600,000 people around the world who will receive implanted pacemakers this year can choose a wireless device from St. Jude Medical, Inc. (St. Paul, MN). The first was put into a New York woman this summer. It sends a wireless signal to a home monitor which a doctor can read over the internet. When the patient then comes for an office visit, the data is already there. St. Jude Medical expects to have implantable wireless blood pressure and blood glucose devices in a not too distant future.
