Making Cancer Cells Glow

This is gene therapy with a twist. Researchers at AntiCancer, Inc. (San Diego, CA) and Okayama University in Japan have used a modified cold virus to introduce fluorescent tags inside tumor cells. The virus only replicates in cells with telomerase activity-i.e. cancer cells. Fluoresence, of course, then makes malignant cells more visible to the surgeon. MORE
