Parkinson’s sufferers experience motor dysfunctions as cells of the brain’s substantia nigra fail to transmit impulses. Deep brain electrodes can stimulate those cells, but it is an invasive technique. Now, however, Arizona State University neuroscientist, Jamie Tyler, has used a low intensity ultrasound to activate transmission from outside the skull, and has formed a company to commercialize this approach.
