A Phone-In Urine Test
February 10, 2009 | Terry Sharrer
In order to monitor tuberculosis (TB) medication compliance, researchers at MIT’s Innovations in International Health have developed a paper based diagnostic that the patient urinates upon. A chemical reaction tells whether medications have been taken, and a code reveals on the paper which the patient phones in to the monitor every day. The reward for reporting is free cell-phone minutes. One successful field trial has been completed in Nicaragua and another is in progress in Pakistan. MORE
