Telemed at Sea
December 2, 2008 | Terry Sharrer
George Washington University’s Medical Faculty Associates have opened a Worldwide Emergency Communications Center (part of the school’s Innovation Practice division) that provides telemedicine services for merchant shipping. So far, they are monitoring crews on 300 ships. Typically, oil tankers, et al, have too few workers to justify an on-board physician, and it’s often difficult or impossible to go to port when someone is sick Sure beats putting into Mogadishu Hospital! See this and other Innovation Practice examples.
