At the 2006 Medical Automation Conference, Brett Goroir, from DARPA, discussed a bedside language translation device the military is developing for overseas operations.  Indeed, automated, portable language translation has broad appeal.  Now, the Joint Commission is looking into language accessibility for hospital patients and appears to be heading toward a new standard for “culturally competent patient-centered care.”          MORE
