Carmat total artificial heart

A French company, Carmat (Velizy-Villacoublay, France) has had its total artificial heart implanted in both a male and female patient in the US.  The device, known as the Aeson artificial heart, controls blood flow in both ventricles and adjusts for changes in blood pressure.  It relies on an external power supply and is mainly intended as a bridge until a natural heart can be found.  MORE
