You may remember Oliver Sacks’ 1985 book “The Man Who Mistook His Wife for a Hat,” about visual agnosia. This piece is about a patient identified as RFS at Johns Hopkins Hospital who must have a subset of agnosia, as he could not recognize numbers, specifically the numbers 2 to 9. EEGs showed that he was perceiving the numbers without awareness of them. MORE
