Digital Guidance for the Blind

In Greek mythology, Theia, the “far shining one,” was the Mother of the Sun. So why not name a “seeing eye” guidance device in her honor? That’s what a student at England’s Loughborough University has done in making a hand-held gyroscope-based prototype that aims to guide the blind. This is still in development and needs to integrate a Lidar laser to measure distance, but it already can detect obstacles and divert the user to one side or the other. MORE
