Laser-Light Activated Drug Delivery for Arthritis

A collaborative team at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and Duke University have demonstrated how a photosensitive conjugate of the rheumatoid arthritis drug dexamethasone and vitamin B12 can be placed inside red blood cells, and then released at the site of a painful joint with a laser held on the skin above the joint. This reduces the amount of drug RA patients would otherwise take, with better pain control. MORE
