Clearing Fat from the Bloodstream

An article in the Journal of Lipid Research describes how scientists at the University of Cincinnati used recombinant DNA to produce apolipoprotein A5 in bacteria at a rate of 25 milligrams per liter. They then gave this to mice which had been fed a high fat diet. The APOA5 reduced the animals’ blood triglycerides level—as APOA5, produced in the liver, does in humans. However, this has not been done in human experiments, but might follow with positive results, and applied to people with diabetes, and cardiovascular disease. MORE
