Surgical Robot for Neurovascular Work
February 25, 2020 | Terry Sharrer
In a “first-in-humans” procedure, neurovascular surgeons at Toronto Western Hospital used a “Corindus” (Waltham, MA) robot to control the blood flow to a patient’s brain aneurysm. Though this piece doesn’t give many surgical details, presumably the robot inserted a catheter through the patient’s groin to reach an artery feeding the brain aneurysm. The catheter then delivered one or more soft platinum coils which constricted blood flow to the aneurysm. MORE
