Easter Island, in the South Pacific, is where scientists from the University of Montreal in 1964 discovered a fungicide that 35 years later became a human immunosuppressant used in organ transplants. Its name is rapamycin. Now, a Boston biotech, “resTORbio,” suspects that a mild suppression of immune response could delay aging, as greater inflammation is associated with growing older. This piece makes a possible case for low dose rapamycin as an anti-aging drug, though it says nothing about another effect, disturbing blood glucose control in causing diabetes. MORE
