Monitoring Blood Pressure with a Smart Watch
December 10, 2019 | Terry Sharrer
Biobeat Technologies (Tel Aviv, Israel) has received FDA approval for its wrist-wearable blood pressure monitor. Using light to measure physical changes in blood flow at the wrist (plethysmography), this device is cloud connected so the data can be transmitted from the wearer to a medical monitor. The company also makes a chest patch that does the same thing. Rechargeable battery life for the watch is 3 days; for the patch, 10 days. Experience and time will tell if this is the breakthrough in passive, continuous vital sign tracking it claims to be. It is worth noting that while the device itself is warranted for 12 months against defects, no warranty applies to the accuracy of its measurements (see user agreement) MORE
