CRISPR-Engineered B Cells

Several research groups aim to engineer B cells against infectious viruses like HIV or respiratory syncytial virus (RSV), and successful strategies are emerging, if only slowly. Researchers at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center have taken an approach in mice studies, where they use CRISPR gene editing to insert fused genes for heavy and light chains of antibodies that are specific for a virus—in this case RSV. The resulting B cells did produce antibodies to RSV, but only abundantly in immune deficient mice. MORE
