Growing Blood without A, B and RhD Antigens

There are 36 different blood groups and more than 350 antigens on red blood cells that can cause immune system rejections after transfusions. To make an improved O-type, researchers at the University of Bristol used CRISPR gene editing to knock out the A, B and RhD antigens in three blood lines, and then combine and expand them for safer transfusions.
