Device for Minimally Invasive Mitral Regurgitation Repair
September 20, 2016 | Terry Sharrer
Through a small hole in the chest, a new tool allows cardiac surgeons to replace the cords that control the mitral value and thereby resolve a common degenerative heart condition known as mitral regurgitation. The design originated at the University of Maryland Medical Center, and Harpoon Medical (Baltimore) is the manufacturer. Mitral valve repair used to be a highly invasive, open chest procedure; with this device, the operation can be performed on an outpatient basis. MORE
