This is a story about an idea that obviously is not ready for prime time, but is fascinating nonetheless. Systems biologists at the University of California-San Diego are engineering Salmonella not to deliver their toxins that cause gastrointestinal illness but instead to produce and deliver anticancer drugs to the GI tract.
