Bielefeld University, in Germany’s North Rhine-Westphalia state, has a university-wide collaborative group of 250 researchers working under the title “Cluster of Excellence Center in Cognitive Interactive Technology (CITEC).” Their main focus areas are “motor intelligence, attentive systems, situated communications, and memory and learning.” An outcome of this research was shown earlier this summer at the “Automatica” trade exhibition in Munich—an assistive “social” robot named “Floka.” This humanoid robot communicates with emotional facial expressions. Along with four other assistive robots, CITEC exhibits addressed situations in daily apartment living in the future. MORE
