Immediately after a heart attack, the heart muscle floods a protein, cardiac troponin I, into the blood stream and in about an hour after taking a blood sample, a lab usually can confirm that an attack has occurred. But a faster, point-of-care device from Philips, “Minicare 1-20,” can make the same determination in 10 minutes. This device has been approved in Europe, but not in the US. MORE
