Implantable Biosensor for Cancer Monitoring

How can imaging tell if a tumor is enlarging from malignant growth or getting bigger because of an immune response as it dies? The picture isn’t always clear, but researchers at MIT’s Koch Institute for Integrative Cancer Research have built a tiny sensor—small enough to be implanted through the tip of a biopsy needle—that can determine changing indicators of the tumor’s biology and wireless send data to an external reader.
