Topical Nanoparticle Ointment for Wound Healing

Diabetes can create horrendous wounds that defy healing and sometime result in amputations. To address this, dermatologists at Northwestern University have developed a gene regulating ointment. The active ingredients are gold nanoparticles arrayed with globular forms of an RNA that knocks down the ganglioside enzyme GM3 which otherwise keeps the wound open. A drug store skin moisturizer, Aquaphor, containing the nanoparticles is the means of delivery. MORE
