Printing Heart Tissue

The University of California San Diego Health System houses one of the world leaders in stem cell R&D, the Sanford Stem Cell Clinical Center. This is among the California Institute for Regenerative Medicine’s “Alpha Clinics,” and recently CIRM awarded Sanford researchers another $3m to support 3D printing of new cardiac tissue from human embryonic stem cells. Currently, Sanford is running clinical trials for diabetes and spinal cord injuries. This piece didn’t say when trials for heart repair would begin. MORE
