Wearable Lactic Acid Monitor
February 24, 2015 | Terry Sharrer
BSXinsight (Houston, TX) is taking orders for what they claim is “the first wearable lactate threshold sensor.” This is a device that straps onto the back of the calf and uses a light source to detect rising lactic acid levels as athletes push themselves “to the wall.” LED light penetrates the skin (similar to a pulse oximeter) and measures reflection which is influenced by the biochemistry of the muscle mass. Results are sent to a mobile device. The device costs $420. MORE
