GE’s Research on Neural Implants
August 26, 2014 | Terry Sharrer
Neural implants that allow paralyzed people to “think’ their way to movement have been in the news recently—with emphasis on recently. Experience has shown that in a year or so, scar tissue encapsulates these devices and renders them ineffective. To address this problem, General Electric’s bioengineers are aiming to design high capacity MEMS versions of the implants that are coated with materials which resist the growth of scarring tissue.
