Kaiser Permanente’s “HouseCalls”

At MedicalAutomation’s 2009 conference, Dr. Alan Dappen described his telemedicine practice named “Doc Talker.” For a modest fee, patients under his care can call 24/7 for a 15-minute consultation, which usually results in prescription. Kaiser Permanente of the National Capital Region (VA, MD, DC) has now adopted the same service, with a scheduled twenty-minute video appointment. From the patient’s viewpoint, this is a great convenience; from the provider’s, it represents a market share strategy of considerable importance. MORE
