A New Kind of “Wearable” Sensor for the Heart
April 29, 2014 | Terry Sharrer
Previously, Tagline has reported on sensored patches that monitor heart function, but this piece is about a 3-D printed, elastic silicon membrane that, with custom fit, covers the entire heart surface. MRI or CT imaging create the measurements which drive the 3-D printer. Micro sensors, imbedded in the membrane, detect several stress and flow functions, and could send out electrical pulses to arrest arrhythmias. Authors of the research paper are at Washington University in St. Louis. MORE
