A Happiness Gene for Women; Men, Not So Much

Happiness probably has an epigenetic basis, but researchers at the University of South Florida have found that a single gene, for monoamine oxidase, regulates serotonin levels and women who have two copies of this gene’s alleles are happier than women with one copy, and even one copy in women gives them an edge for good moods over men whose testosterone levels tend to minimize the effect of monoamine oxidase.
