Terahertz radiation falls in the electromagtic spectrum between microwaves and infrared and has some properties of each. By tuning several wave lengths harmonically, through a microchip, physicists at Cornell University have developed an imaging system that is safer than x-rays and capable of seeing anomalies in infrared that are invisible to the naked eye, such as early melanomas and the onset of pressure ulcers.
