Will Qualcomm be First with a “Tricorder?”
November 1, 2011 | Terry Sharrer
Remember “Dr. Bone’s” “tricorder” from Star Trek? It was a handheld device that scanned a 23rd century person and gave an instant diagnosis of any malady. That is still a science fiction idea, but Qualcomm has underwritten a $10m “X-Prize” for anyone who can develop such a device. Presumably it will involve some of the sight, smell and feel sensors of the type now going into the University of Leicester’s experimental “sick bay.” Will you be the winner? Qualcomm’s Robert Jarrin will talk about the competition during our Medical Automation Conference on December 2 at the Dulles (VA) Marriott. MORE
