Moving Networked Remote Wellness Monitoring to the Mainstream
Much has been said lately about the notion of reforming healthcare. One of the most exciting opportunities for satisfying recipients, improving care, and reducing cost is Telehealth Remote Monitoring— the use of a broadband communication network and interoperable devices to allow individuals to make health indications available in real time to physicians and caregivers for improved disease diagnosis, treatment, and management, avoidance of acute conditions, and general oversight. However, powered by new standards, inexpensive “chip” radios, and “smart” Personal Health Devices, such networks can now take monitoring to the next level: wellness management using streaming multi-factor sensors, multimedia databases, and cloud-based analytics to evaluate and coach overall well-being. This talk will provide an overview of some recent research to move toward this goal and an outlook for the future of “always on” personal remote monitoring.
