Why Biorepositories Are Important

Recently, Kaiser Permanente completed phase one of its biorepository project, where it collected blood samples from 100,000 of its members and carried out microarray studies of gene expression patterns. Researchers also measured telomere lengths for this cohort, ranging in age from 18 to 107. This piece doesn’t detail the study’s medical specifics, but clearly the effort is aimed at subclassifying human diseases for a more personalized approach. MORE
