Royal Philips Electonics, in the Netherlands, and Munich-based Definiens have signed an agreement to pursue molecular imaging. Philips bring to the deal its expertise in radiology and digital image handling; Definens’ capability is based on physicist Gerd Binnig‘s development of the scanning tunneling microscope (for which he shared the 1986 Nobel Prize in Physics). Their first joint effort will “focus” on biomarker detection in immunohistology-based breast cancer diagnostics (e.g. detecting HER2). MORE
