Engineers as universities in England and Italy have developed a device that uses laser sensors, cameras, GPS, and directional sounds-not to improve automobile safety for which these components were originally applied, but to guide a blind person on a safe path.  The components are fitted into a helmet that sight-impaired people wear.  While this is not yet a commercial product, testing on busy streets in Italy showed promise.  MORE
