Delegated Computing: “Do Engines”
March 31, 2009 | Terry Sharrer
Google, Yahoo, et al are Search Engines. But Silicon Valley engineer Adam Cheyer envisions “do engines” or delegating computing. Using artificial intelligence software, an electronic “do” device might be able to automatically find a moderately priced Chinese restaurant in Midtown and make a reservation. It could even sort through a vague request until it becomes specific enough for automated action. In effect, the idea is an options sorter that resolves a question. Cheyer has not yet proposed healthcare applications, but it’s easy to imagine how this sort of approach might support someone with memory loss or suggest the best choices for wellness. See Cheyer’s website for more information.
