Membraneless Organelles

Inside living cells, proteins and RNAs form membraneless organelles that give the cell structure, or when the structure fails, diseases result, such as cancer, ALS and Huntington’s. To explore how these structures take shape, biologists at Princeton and Washington University of St. Louis have used ultrafast scanning fluorescence correlation spectroscopy to move the “tissue” and “obtain calibration-free measurements of concentrations inside membraneless organelles.” MORE
