CRISPR Skin Grafts Instead of Insulin Injections

Researchers at the University of Chicago have used CRISPR gene editing to establish proof of concept in lab animals that skin cells can be reprogrammed to produce glucagon-like peptide 1 which lowers blood sugar levels and suppresses appetite. As this piece concludes, “these results highlight the clinical potential of developing long-lasting, safe, and versatile gene therapy approaches based on engineering epidermal progenitor cells.” MORE
