It only takes about 20% loss of blood for life-threatening hemorrhagic shock to set in—as might happen from a gunshot, car wreck or a major bleed from surgery. Being able to quickly monitor the clotting cascade is the goal of Entegrion’s (Durham, NC) USDOD-funded point-of-care device which already has CE approval. A few drops of untreated whole blood into a glass cartridge gives immediate results and a complete overview of clotting in about an hour, which also could reveal hypercoagulation in COVID-19 cases.
