If your finger nails and hair grow, it shows the fibrous structural protein keratin is at work. This, now, has become an attractive material for tissue engineering. As this report from bioengineers with the Polish Academy of Sciences, has it: “Keratin-based materials characterized as less thermolabile proteins, with mechanical durability, intrinsic biocompatibility, biodegradability and natural abundance can be the most promising for revolutionizing the biomaterial world.” MORE
