Not long ago, stem cell scientists considered “Oct4” (i.e. octamer-binding transcription factor 4—one of the four Yamanaka factors that induce pluripotency in mature cell types) an essential gene product for turning back the ability of, say, skin cells, to cells that can become other types. Now, it seems that Oct 4 is not always necessary for this magic. MORE
