Mass-Spec Test for QC in Blood Samples

“Exposure of blood plasma/serum (P/S) to thawed conditions (> −30 °C) can produce biomolecular changes that skew measurements of biomarkers within archived patient samples, potentially rendering them unfit for molecular analysis.” To address this, researchers at Arizona State University have developed a mass-spec test that measures two different isoforms of albumin, revealing if the blood sample had been inadvertently thawed and if so for how long.
