Getting Oxygen into Regenerated Tissues
November 12, 2019 | Terry Sharrer
Tissue regeneration has accelerated from using hydrogels, but a next step is to see and be sure that oxygen is reaching the cells. To that end, “. . . researchers at Rice University have developed special microparticles, that are soft and non-toxic to living cells, that glow in relation to how oxygenated their environment is. These microparticles [made of palladium and a fluorophore] are particularly well suited to measuring oxygen within three-dimensional structures, such as hydrogels because they’re relatively bright and can be seen from outside such constructs.” MORE
