In the “smartphone psychiatry movement,” typing speed, voice tone, and word choice can be “biomarkers” for suicide risk. Such things become biomarkers after analyzing thousands of examples and comparing them to outcomes. In a study at Vanderbilt University, a suicide study of 5,000 patients, predicted the course of events with 84% accuracy. And, using similar machine learning and artificial intelligence techniques, digital data can better assess depression, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, and other mental health problems. MORE
